Employment in the Library

The University of Canterbury Library, when it has vacancies, is interested in receiving applications from enthusiastic and energetic people who are interested in a library career. If you enjoy working with people and want to be employed in a dynamic field then you should apply for positions as they become available.

Employment Options

The Library employs people under a range of employment agreements and terms.

The Library's range of employment options are as follows:

  • Permanent positions – year round employment
  • Academic Year Only positions – these permanent positions are mainly part-time. Staff employed in these roles work only during the academic year (Feb – Nov)
  • Casual positions – on-call positions established to provide service coverage in the evenings and weekends as required
  • Fixed Term – part-time or full-time as required for project work, parental leave and other situations that require this type of employment agreement.
