The
Directory of Open Access Journals lists over 8000 scholarly journals published under an open access model - you can search or browse by subject. Almost half of the journals are searchable at article level through the DOAJ itself, with well over 800,000 articles.
A newer venture, the
Directory of Open Access Books collects links to academic ebooks (so far over 1100) available under open access licenses. You can
search or (more usefully, at this early stage)
browse by title, subject or publisher. You can then view the book's indexing details and abstract, export a citation to Endnote, and download the full-text.
OpenDOAR is a directory of open access repositories like the
UC Research Repository, searchable
by organisation or
by country. Its
search for papers is a bit crude - I'll talk about alternatives another time.
