How we contact you - UC Students and Staff
We will contact you if you have
- Items on hold - something you have requested is available to be picked up.
- Items about to become due - a reminder 3 days in advance to return or renew them.
- Overdue items - a reminder to renew or return them.
- Recalls - standard loans issued for 7 days or more that have been requested by another borrower.
- Fines - courtesy reminder that you have fines over $10 which will prevent borrowing in the short term.
- Lost books - something that you have out which is more than 32 days overdue, and has therefore been set to lost.
Methods of contact
- We prefer to contact you by email, or, for some notices, and where we have a cell phone number, by text message. See below, or a table of notices sent and how they are sent.
- If we don't have a valid email address, we will send a letter by post.
- We will phone you if the matter is a more urgent, for example if you have an overdue item that another borrower needs.
Text messages
We will send a text message to notify you about issues where timeliness is important, as follows:
- 3 day loan items on hold for you
- overdue hourly and daily loans
- overdue items that someone else has requested
- items that have been recalled and have a changed due date
- University policy requires the Library to use a valid UC student or staff email addresses when contacting you. This means that we cannot store any type of email address for you on our system.
- To arrange for library email notices to be forwarded to another preferred email address, please contact ictservicedesk@canterbury.ac.nz phone 364 2060 (direct dial) or ext 6060.
- When you receive an email notice, use the reply option if there is something we need to know, for example if you no longer need the item being held for you or if you have already returned the item we think is still out to you and overdue.
Phone
Student and staff phone numbers on our system are copied from one of the University’s databases.
- Student phone numbers can be updated via UC Student Web.
- Staff are contacted on their work phone number. Any changes to this need to be made by Human Resources.
In person
Whenever you are at a service desk, we will try to pass on any useful messages to you which are displayed on your borrower record, for example, you may have items to pick up or renew or return.
Self Help
Through My Library Account you can check on due dates, make renewals, see if there are requests available for pick up and check for recalls or fines.
