Antarctic Collection
The Antarctic Collection on Level 10 of the Central Library is based on the collection built by Antarctica New Zealand. It continues to be developed jointly by the Library and Antarctica New Zealand and complements the holdings of Antarctic material in other parts of the Library.
Audio-Visual materials
Audio-Visual materials include DVDs, CDROMs, music CDs, videos, spoken language cassettes, microfilm, and microfiche. Equipment for viewing audio-visual materials is available on Level 2.
Large books
If the item you are looking for is not on the shelves with the rest of the collection, it may be too big to fit on the shelf. Have a look on the bottom shelves, below where the book should be shelved.
Art and Music books too large for the standard shelves are shelved in the Large Book section on Level 6. They are indicated on the Library Catalogue with the copy note "Shelved in Large Book section, Level 6".
Maps
New Zealand topographical maps are available on Topomap.
Special collections
The Central Library holds a number of special collections.
Theses
Theses completed at the University of Canterbury are listed on the Library Catalogue. Some are kept on the open shelves and may be borrowed in the normal manner, while others are only retrieved on request. See Finding and borrowing theses for more information.
