Using Topomap on-campus

NOTE: Topomap is not available off-campus, and will only run on PCs running Windows.

Internet Explorer users should be able to connect via the Topomap link. For this link to work, you must have W3Launch software installed on your PC. This is available through Add/Remove Programs.

An alternative route which will suit some users is to create a desktop shortcut that connects directly to Topomap. If you have access to the U: drive, navigate to U:\Library\Shortcuts folder
< \\canterbury.ac.nz\universal\Library\Shortcuts > and drag a copy of the Topomap shortcut out of that folder onto your desktop.

If that fails, you can create a shortcut by right-clicking on your desktop, selecting New then Shortcut. When asked to enter the Location of the Item, enter: \\cantwl3\Topo-NZ\Topo.exe

Create shortcut wizard

Creating a shortcut may also work with computers connected to the University wireless network, although this is unsupported. If you do this it is likely you will be prompted for your login when you open the shortcut. If so, prefix your username with uocnt\

Note for Support Staff: If you provide access to Topomap via a Terminal Server, you may need to add cantwl3 as a trusted site in your Windows Internet Options. (Thanks to Peter Glassenbury for this note.)
