Studying Overseas

Students enrolled in UC courses and based outside New Zealand are welcome to register for library distance services. However the service level we offer differs from that offered to students in New Zealand.

It is therefore important that on enrolment overseas students are asked to confirm that they have access to a local library service that can provide them with reference, lending and document delivery services for items not held by their local library.

The Library is able to offer the following services:

  • Access to the Library's Website and electronic resources.
  • Photocopies/scans of chapters of books and periodical articles may be requested from the Library's stock. Such copying must comply with New Zealand Copyright legislation.
  • Use of the University of Canterbury Library interloan service for distance students with some restrictions.
  • Use of the University of Canterbury Library interloan service within the restrictions noted on the Interloans for distance users page.
  • Access to help via library staff (by email/phone) and AskLive service

The Library excludes the following services:

  • The postage of Library items (books and audiovisual materials) to any destination outside New Zealand.
The provision of articles and documents that are readily available through the local library in the student's country of residence.
