Distance Services

Do I qualify for distance services?

Students

We will automatically provide services by distance if you are enrolled in:

  • a recognised distance course, (course code site indicators D,E)
  • a UC College of Education regional initiative (course code site indicators N,T,R,Y),

If you are a fully enrolled current University of Canterbury student who lives outside Canterbury (within New Zealand) and you have the support of your department you may also qualify to register for distance services. See Boundary Map of Canterbury Region on the Statistics New Zealand web site.

Students living outside New Zealand who are current fully enrolled students at the University of Canterbury may apply to register for limited distance services.

Staff

We will provide services by distance if you are an employee of the University of Canterbury and work at

  • a UC College of Education regional initiative,
  • a UC campus other than Christchurch

How do I register for distance services?

Students

If you are enrolled in a course with a distance or regional campus site indicator (site indicators D, E, N, T, R or Y) you will be automatically registered for distance services on completion of enrolment.

If you are not enrolled in a recognised distance course and you meet the criteria for distance services, you should talk to your academic department and request they send us a “Service Agreement” for library distance services. Once the service agreement (PDF 31 KB) has been signed, your academic department has agreed to support your study by distance.

Staff

If you are employed at a UC campus location other than Christchurch you will be automatically registered for distance services.  The Library will cover all costs of the service other than Interloans.
