Managing Popups in Firefox | Managing Popups in Internet Explorer

Firefox and the latest update of Internet Explorer allow you to block annoying popup windows that appear without your permission.

Some sites make legitimate use of popup windows. Some database and e-journal providers the Library links to use popup windows.

Firefox and IE allow you to add a list of "allowed sites", for sites you want to allow popups from.

Firefox instructions

To block popups, go to Tools -> Options in Firefox. Click the Content tab.

Click Block Popup Windows.

Click the Allowed Sites button and then type the address of the web site - *.canterbury.ac.nz - then click the Allow button.

Internet Explorer Instructions

Go to Tools -> Internet Options --> Click the Privacy tab.

If you are using a later update for IE, a Pop-up blocker checkbox appears:

You can specify sites that make legitimate use of popups by clicking the Settings button.

Enter the address of the web site, then click the Add button (enter a * to enter a range):
