TEDU310 Database Searching Tutorial

Finding journal articles

The most efficient way to find a journal article is to do a search on a database covering your subject area.

Some databases include the full text of the article, others give a citation or reference to the article.

The reference includes the author(s) of the article, title of the article, journal title, volume number, date of publication and page numbers.  This provides enough information to locate the journal article via the library.

The database also gives an abstract or summary of the article.

It is important to remember that databases are produced by commercial publishers, so the library will not necessarily provide access to all of the articles.
