Borrowing from other academic libraries
- The University of Canterbury Library has reciprocal borrowing agreements with other academic libraries in the Canterbury region, and the rest of New Zealand.
- For all other inter-library lending services (New Zealand and overseas), refer to Interloans.
Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT)
The University of Canterbury Library has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology under the Canterbury Tertiary Alliance (CTA) agreement.
Other University Libraries
All University libraries in New Zealand, except the University of Auckland Library, allow students and staff from other universities to borrow from their library, under the terms of the ULANZ agreement (PDF). As each library has different terms and conditions, please check the information relating to each library:

Canterbury Medical Library
The University of Canterbury Library and the Canterbury Medical Library (Christchurch School of Medicine) have a longstanding agreement for reciprocal borrowing (now covered by the ULANZ agreement (PDF).)
Eligibility
For the University of Canterbury, this agreement covers people who are currently:
- Staff (University of Canterbury continuing or fixed term employees)
- Postgraduate and undergraduate students (University of Canterbury)
Registration
Registration is available:
- Monday to Friday, between 8.30am – 5.00pm
- At the Loans Desk of the Canterbury Medical Library, 6th floor of the Christchurch School of Medicine building.
Individuals must present a current staff / student ID card from their home institution and complete a registration form. This ID card will be used as the library card at Canterbury Medical Library.
Membership
- Individuals must be registered members of the Canterbury Medical Library to access & use this library.
- Access by reciprocal members is available between 8.30am – 5.00pm weekdays.
- Membership and access is to the Canterbury Medical Library only.
- Membership will generally be for the period specified in the ULANZ agreement (to the 28 February of the year following registration).

*Note: all books can be borrowed from the lending collection with the exception of books in the nursing area.
Please continue to use University of Canterbury Library as your main library resource (including database searching). Only use Canterbury Medical Library when you require their unique resources.
