University of Canterbury Theses
The Library holds a copy of all theses completed at the University of Canterbury. Their details may be found by searching the Library Catalogue. Some theses are found on the shelf and can be borrowed; others need to be retrieved for you for use within the Library. See "How to borrow a University of Canterbury thesis".
If you know the author or title of a thesis:
Use an author or title search on the Library Catalogue.
To find theses on a particular subject:
There are several alternatives:
- Title keyword
Enter the term thesis followed by the subject discipline, e.g.
thesis chemistry.
NB: This won't find older theses which lack the term 'thesis' in the sub-title. - Keywords
Finds all University of Canterbury theses for a particular subject, including the older ones not picked up by Title Keyword.
NB: Keyword searches for theses by subject sometimes also finds those in other subjects, e.g. thesis history picks up theses in art history, business history etc. - Lists on Subject Guides
Browse lists on some subject guides, including Philosophy, History, and Art. - Philosophy theses
Avoid using a keyword index to search for Philosophy theses, as 'Doctor of Philosophy' applies to all subjects. Use the Philosophy Theses list also available from the Philosophy Subject Guide.
Digital theses
UC theses available in digital format (mainly 2006 on) are available through UC Research Repository.
Theses in Storage
Many theses are kept offsite, in Library storage, and will need to be requested.
